Multicast Upgrade

HD Flow Pro Multicasting Instructions

View the Multicast Setup How-To Video

Before you Start

  1. Multicasting will only work at 720p signal level, not at 1080p. Any and all signal sources connected to the transmitter must be set to 720p. 1080p is possible in Unicast programming only.
  2. Be sure the existing base transmitter and receiver work together. Connect power, source, both HDTV's, power up, and ensure video and audio work correctly with content.
  3. A USB drive of at least 6 Meg free space is required. We suggest the usb drive also have an indicating light for activity. The light activity helps ensure the programming process is proceeding.
  4. With the transmitter and receiver running, check the firmware version by using the HD Flow Pro remote at the receiver and pressing "I" for information. Write down the firmware version for both.

The current firmware version (as of 1-24-11) is 2.15. Many units sold prior are 2.11. This is important because a 2.15 and 2.11 devices won't communicate at all. The firmware must be the same on all transmitters and receivers.

Multicasting Process, Phase 1 (Transmitter programming and firmware update):

Up to 4 receivers can operate from a single transmitter. Out of the box, the system is configured as Unicast. To Multcast, the same base transmitter and receiver set must be upgraded and the base receiver becomes Slave 1.

The first phase consists of upgrading the base transmitter and receiver firmware (included in the multicast process) and set the base transmitter and receiver to Multicast operation.

  1. Leave any additional receivers powered off. They can be connected to the HDTV though.
  2. Make sure the base transmitter and receiver are still operating with content per above step 2.
  3. Get the "SSID" number off the tag on the transmitter. You only need the 4 printed digits in the label. A "0" character will be zero, not "oh". The "oh" letter is never used.
  4. Go to www.HDFlow.com . Select "Tech Support" from across the top. Scroll to the bottom of the page under "Firmware Upgrades > Multicasting upgrade" and select "Download and Instructions" button on the right.
  5. There are basic steps listed at the top. Scroll down to the box labeled "Set up the System Configuration". There are four (4) items to be input.
    • Under the option of "Streaming Mode" select Multicast
    • Under the option of "Connection Type" select WiFi
    • Under the option of "SSID:ITRIO_" enter the 4 digit SSID from the transmitter
    • Under "RX number" select "Slave 1" for the BASE EXISTING receiver.
  6. Insert the usb drive into your pc. Ensure it is empty.
  7. Select the button "Download Software" and save it to the usb drive. Repeat for "Download config.tx" and "Download config.rx". Correctly remove the usb drive from the pc. You may have to use "Safely remove hardware" in windows.
  8. Insert the usb drive into the base receiver while it's operating. Look for the receiver HDTV screen to show "USB Detected !!" in the upper left corner within about 15 seconds, and the usb light blinking fast. Shortly after both the receiver and transmitter lights will start blinking fast, indicating the firmware is being installed and the units are re-booting. The video and audio will be intermittent during this process, and the whole process takes about 4-5 minutes. Eventually the signal led's will both stabilize and the operation will resume operating correctly. Remove the usb drive.

If the screen does not show "USB detected!!" within the first 30 seconds, remove, wait 5 seconds, re-insert. DO NOT POWER OFF, USE REMOTE, OR RESET THE SYSTEM DURING THIS PROCESS.
  9. With base set operating with audio and video working, aim the remote at the receiver and press "I". The latest firmware should show. It should also show Transmitter IP address ending in .151 and receiver IP address ending in .152. Phase 1 is complete.

Multicasting Process, Phase 2 (add receivers)

  1. Leave base transmitter and Slave 1 receiver operating, with content.
  2. Back to the website page at the box labeled "Set up the System Configuration". There are four (4) items to be input.
    • Under the option of "Streaming Mode" select Multicast (same as before)
    • Under the option of "Connection Type" select WiFi (same as before)
    • Under the option of "SSID:ITRIO_" enter the 4 digit SSID from the transmitter (same as before)
    • Under "RX number" select "Slave 2" for the next receiver.
  3. Insert the usb drive into your pc. Ensure it is empty, erase all previous downloads.
  4. Select the button "Download Software" and save it to the usb drive. Repeat for "Download config.tx" and "Download config.rx". Correctly remove the usb drive from the pc. You may have to use "Safely remove hardware" in windows.
  5. Power up Receiver 2 and ensure complete connections of HDTV and power. After about 1 minute, the receiver 2 signal light will blink slow, no video or audio will be present yet.
  6. Insert the usb drive. Look for the usb light to change from constant on to blinking fast, and look for "New firmware detected" on the receiver 2 HDTV screen top left. After about 30 seconds, the Slave 2 will re-boot.
  7. After about 3 minutes of blinking light patterns, the selected Slave 2 output and wifi signal light will stabilize on, and audio and video will appear on Slave 2. Remove the usb drive. The screen may pixilate once right after removing the usb drive.
  8. Aim the remote at Slave 2 and press "I". The latest firmware should show. It should also show Transmitter IP address ending in .151 and Slave 2 IP address ending in .153. Update of Slave 2 is done.
  9. For Slave 3 and Slave 4 receivers, repeat this Phase 2 and only change the following:
    • On step 2d, enter either "Slave 3" or "Slave 4". Note the slaves must be done in order.
    • On step 8, Slave 3 IP address will end in .154 and Slave 4 IP address will end in .155.
    • Replace all "Slave 2" references with "Slave 3" or "Slave 4".

Factory Reset of Transmitter or Receiver

The factory reset will change the programming back to Unicast, but will not change from the most current firmware. If one wishes to reset either unit, the reset is completed as following:

NOTE-THE TRANSMITTER AND RECEIVER(S) SHOULD BOTH BE RESET TOGETEHER TO ENSURE STARTING AS SUPPLIED NEW. PERFORM THE SAME OPERATION ON BOTH UNITS TO RETURN TO UNICASTING OPERATION AS NEW.

  1. Unplug the power from the selected unit.
  2. Hold down the small button on the unit face, and plug the power back in.
  3. Hold the button for about 7 seconds, until all lights flash, then release button.
  4. The Multicasting upload process must start from the beginning again.
